Daniel Hoesl
“The clown prince of Austrian Cinema.” — The Hollywood Reporter.
Daniel Hoesl is an expert on wealth phenomena, on the value and price of money.
Daniel Hoesl was born in 1982. After his training as an electrical engineer, he began his studies in media art in Salzburg with a digression to study directing in Prague at FAMU, where he made his first short film. During his apprenticeship as assistant director with Ulrich Seidl et al, he realised further short films.
His first feature film Soldate Jeannette had its world première at the Sundance Festival in 2013 and won the Tiger Award in Rotterdam, where his second feature film WINWIN also premiered in 2016. His first documentary Davos had its world première in 2020 in competition at the Vision du Réel Festival in Nyon, CH.
His feature film VENI VIDI VICI will be completed in 2023, produced by Ulrich Seidl Film Produktion. At the same time, he has started work with Thomas Köck and Andreas Spechtl on an essay film about the casino exclave Campione d’Italia, to be completed in 2024.
Apart from his work as a director, he is also active as a writer for series, for example Christian Schwochow’s project FCK MY HERITAGE, Komplizen Film, Berlin. He rarely appears in front of the camera as an actor, most recently alongside Corinna Harfouch and Lilith Stangenberg in Julian Radlmaier’s film “Blutsauger”, Berlinale 2021.
